Program Description Psychology is the scientific study of the mind, brain, and behaviour. It seeks to understand why people do what they do. The goals are to describe, explain, and predict behaviour, allowing for a scientific means of optimizing human development, abilities, and quality of life. Psychology is a social, biological, and cognitive science.
As a social science, you will focus on issues such as:
how people influence the behaviour of others why we do what we do personality and self-concept interpersonal relations As a biological science you will study physiological mechanisms, neuroanatomy, and evolutionary origins of mental and behavioural phenomena.
As a cognitive science you will examine processes like sensation and perception, abstract thinking, reasoning, language, and memory.
Developmental psychology combines all of these aspects, looking at the total life span from conception to death.
